This Victim Witness Specialist position serves as a Victim Witness Specialist in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) Victim Assistance Program of the Eastern District of New York (EDNY) and provides training to management, staff, and Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) within the District to assure compliance with federal laws and policy concerning federal crime victims, with an emphasis on laws and policy addressing the opioid crisis. If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Victim Witness Specialist support in the Victim Assistance Program, U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of New York, located inBrooklyn, New York, focusing in the areas of victim support. Typical work assignments will include:
Coordinate with Department personnel, federal, state and local law enforcement and victim service providers in providing victims of opioid crisis. Public speaking to civic, industry and special interest groups about victim issues related to the opioid crisis to publicize federal efforts to develop and improve programs for victims. Plan, direct and perform victim assistance program operations and serve as a functional advisor on matters related to the opioid crisis. Design brochures and other outreach material related to the matters of current interest (e.g opioid crisis) to create, or improve, service to victims of federal crime. Develop and provide training, information and resources to support staff, and staff of federal investigative agencies, and state and local law enforcement and community services providers on both general and specific programmatic victim matters. Serve as liaison between U.S. Attorney and local, state and federal law enforcement agencies on victim matters and cases related to the opioid epidemic. MINIMUM
Qualifications:
To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience for the respective grade level(s) in which you are applying:
GS-11 level:
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized work experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service performing the following duties:
1. Coordinating travel/lodging for victims or witnesses, both domestic and international; 2. providing program direction and guidance to management officials on victim matters; 3. assisting in developing procedures and guidelines for victim and witness support services; and 4. Serving as liaison between departmental staff, victims, witnesses and law enforcement agencies. (Must be reflected in your resume) OR Education:
Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work of the position. Such fields include social work, human services, psychology, behavioral sciences, or other directly related fields. One year of full-time graduate education is considered the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be determined from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as 1 year of full-time study . (Must submit your college transcripts.) OR Combination:
Applicants must possess a percentage of specialized experience and a percentage of graduate level education that, when combined together, equals 100 percent. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
