About the Position:


The role holder will be required to oversee the goals of National Grids Gas Corrosion Control Programs in the Brooklyn/Queens and Staten Island region. Responsible for the supervision of region supervisors and maintain public safety, cost reductions, improved worker safety and compliance.


Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):



  • Provide corrosion engineering and design for distribution/transmission pipelines, bridge/highway/waterway crossings, regulating facilities, large metering, gate station and LNG/CNG projects, Complex City/State construction. Based on scopes aligned with system and customer requirements.

  • Incorporate applicable Standards, Procedures, and State/Federal statutory requirements into Gas systems designs.

  • Incorporate corporate process safety procedures into the project work flow as required.

  • Develop project estimates, within accuracy requirements.

  • Identify/specify special order (non-stock) required materials.

  • Develop and gain approval of project scope, cost estimate and schedule.

  • Prepare project documentation, including corporate sanctioning paper where required.

  • Enter project information into the project work management and financial systems.

  • Identify and acquire the necessary permits, licenses, and land rights associated with the project.

  • Working with others in Gas Operations and Gas Engineering, develop engineering and operations procedures to support the engineering and design of gas facilities in accordance with company and regulatory requirements including all safety, health and environmental standards and procedures.

  • Working with the Maps and Records department to ensure that system maps and records are available, and of sufficient accuracy, to support Gas systems designs. Identify where mapping differs from as-built conditions and provide input to rectify variances.

  • Assist Codes and Standards Engineers with the evaluation of company engineering design standards, to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements.

  • As may be required, participate or lead inter-regional projects activities. This may require travel to our upstate and / or downstate New York service territories.

  • Participate in Storm restoration activities or other system emergencies (gas and electric) as called upon.


Qualifications

Knowledge & Experience Required:



  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering is required.

  • Progressive engineering and/or gas construction, field operations related work experience is required.

  • Strong computer applications skills required.

  • Knowledge of gas engineering design standards and applicable natural gas industry codes and regulations.

  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

  • Knowledge of natural gas transmission and distribution systems.

  • Knowledge of underground gas construction techniques and practices.

  • Excellent project management skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Excellent administrative and organization skills.

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving ability.


Knowledge & Experience Required for Band D:


Band D employees are expected to have the knowledge & experience listed above as well as that listed below.



  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and 8 years of gas construction, field operations experience.

  • Possesses theoretical knowledge and understanding of National Grids policies and processes and how to apply them effectively.

  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory issues affecting the industry.

  • Familiarity with Occupational Safety Health Act (OSHA) guidelines.

  • Must have a good working knowledge of gas construction tools and equipment.
