About usOur team is responsible to develop and deliver transmission solutions that enable the grid of tomorrow/renewable future.
In this role you will support offshore and onshore transmission projects, within National Grid Ventures.
This role will also support joint venture projects including Community Offshore Wind.
National Grid is hiring an Engineering Manager in our US Offshore Transmission team in Boston, MA or Brooklyn, NY Job PurposeThe candidate will be working primarily in the Offshore Wind business unit leading transmission analysis and interconnection process management for HVAC and HVDC transmission projects both onshore and offshore to facilitate the integration of clean energy resources.
The candidate will manage a team of engineers and external consultants to lead work packages from conceptual engineering through commissioning.
oManage project development activities associated with onshore and offshore transmission systems to deliver desired project outcomesoSupport the broader NGV US Northeast team in policy, technical assessments, and project development phases.
oManage all aspects of electric system performance, interconnection studies, engineering requirements and related implementation / construction expectations.
oManage team performing system planning, feasibility, and interconnection studies to help advance business and project opportunities, largely in competitive environments.
oConsult on related regulatory implications, wholesale market considerations & processes.
oParticipate and monitor related Federal, State and Regional energy and infrastructure developments and requirements, with a primary focus on NYISO, ISO-NE and Eastern PJM Regions.
oManage and own technical evaluations of projects and support economic values and cost estimations.
oWork across all phases of feasibility assessments, proposal write-ups, cost and pricing formation, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory processes.
oEnsures all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with all Company procedures and policiesKey AccountabilitiesoResponsible to manage engineering team to deliver simultaneous delivery of multiple projects.
oResponsible for the proper staffing and development of personnel.
oGuides and enables employees to accomplish performance objectives.
oFosters a fair and trusting environment through open communications.
oTrain and develop workforce competencies.
oResponsible for the preparation and control of development expense and capital budgets within area of responsibility.
oAccountable for delivery of engineering packages and team performanceoPursue technical assessments to deliver most economically advantageous options, feasibility, and project opportunities.
oProvide technical evaluation of OEM proposals and advise on product selectionoOversee consultants,' engineers or other subject matter experts as required to augment or complement the Business Development team.
oLead technical analysis as needed to support potential project partnershipsoDocument, present and report findings, and justifications.
Help prepare executive summaries or investment committee papers.
oRepresent National Grid interests on national, regional, and local levels when necessary.
oWork in a project team and matrix environment interacting with individuals across NG functions in the US and UKoFoster a culture of safety throughout NGV and joint venturesQualificationsoBachelor's degree in Engineering, required.
Power systems focus desired.
oSeven to ten years of experience developing and/or building utility infrastructure.
Familiarity with transmission planning topics required.
oExcellent interpersonal and managerial skills.
oDomain expertise in one or more of the following RTO/ISO Regions:
ISO-NE, NYISO and PJM planning processes or marketsoKnowledge and experience in NERC reliability standardsoDemonstrated ability to translate complex technical topics into business insight & articulate the impact of results.
oDemonstrated ability to manage complex team interfaces to facilitate and drive project deliverables is essentialoFamiliarity with recent trends in on-shore and off-shore wind, other large-scale renewable generation, energy storage, conventional generation, and emerging technologies such as green hydrogen is a plus.

$143,000 - $168,000 a yearThis position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
