Park Recreation Activities Specialist

NY State Parks has an incredible opportunity at Marsha P. Johnson State Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The Park Recreation Activities Specialist has a broad range of responsibilities, which include providing programming and supporting maintenance and operations. This position will work collaboratively with park management, staff, and educators across the region in a variety of capacities. Under supervision, the Park Recreation Activities specialist:
1. Works with park and regional program staff to plan, conduct, and evaluate park programs and events for schools, community groups, and the public; 2. Coordinates and conducts recreational programs and events, including:
creative arts workshops, guided walks, free play and guided story time programs, performances, seasonal festivals, game library open hours, and other park programs; 3. Works with the environmental education team to develop and conduct education and stewardship programs about the park's natural resources, history, and namesake; 4. Coordinates the usage of Park House facilities and equipment for regular programs and special events, and prepares and maintains event schedules. 5. Assists in determining program and equipment needs; 6. Prepares reports, records, and publicity materials 7. Engages in outreach to schools, community groups, and the public through email, social media, park house exhibit displays, and tabling events. 8. Maintains the park and facilities to ensure a clean and safe environment, which will include light duty maintenance, sanitizing of facilities, trash removal, and the use of a variety of hand and power-driven mechanical equipment. 9. Oversees park opening and closing shifts, and assists in supervising seasonal staff, which may include generating and overseeing projects, monitoring time and attendance, evaluating performance, and scheduling; 10. Patrols the park, answers phones and emails, and interacts with patrons to resolve questions, disseminate information, and provide excellent customer service. 11. Periodically assists with programming, maintenance, and operations at other State Park facilities as needed.

Salary Range:
From $39653 to $48662 Annually
Minimum Qualification
Two years of experience in an organized recreation program, six months of which must have been supervisory.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
